Conditional server side includes and cookies

I can’t write PHP or Javascript. I could learn, but I don’t have much interest. Most of my websites are good old-fashioned static HTML and I use server-side-includes a lot. I thought I would write, in simple terms, about some of ways I’ve used them.

Classic Colgate toothpaste ad

A marvellous Colgate toothpaste ad from the early 1980’s based on ‘Baggy Trousers’ by Madness. And here’s a version for the US market with some of the same kids. But with every trace of Britishness and most of the Madness imagery removed it doesn’t quite ‘get it’ and ends up looking like a dog’s dinner.

Christian group criticised by ad watchdog

A scaremongering poster from an extremist Christian organisation has been criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The Christian Congress for Traditional Values (CCTV) was told it has an outdated view of what constitutes a family in modern Britain.

A surprising number of people have found my blog when searching for ‘posterior vitreous detachment’, after I wrote about what had happened to me. So I thought I would do an update. I’ll tell you up front that it is relatively good news.

A week ago yesterday I awoke to find I had a large black ‘floater’ in my right eye. It was like a daddy-long-legs at a window. As I moved my eye, it leapt around — sometimes in the opposite direction. It was disturbing… But I wear contact lenses and I thought maybe I had a Posterior Vitreous Detachment
