This year's Carnival celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Pan African Congress.
Held in Manchester in 1945, this event was a step towards independence for many
Caribbean and African countries.
The Saturday parade started off from All Saints -- site of the old Chorlton Upon
Medlock Town Hall where the Pan African Congress took place. The inside of this
building was demolished in 1970, but the front is still standing and includes
this plaque.
After going round the city centre (Oxford Road, Peter Street, Deansgate, Princess
Street, St. Peter's Square and GMEX) the Carnival parade went through Hulme, Whalley
Range and Moss Side, ending up at Alexandra Park.
Very enjoyable and my favourite annual Manchester event!
